MOTORIST TIPS

Be Prepared!

Before you take a trip be sure that your vehicle is up-to-date on factory recommended servicing. Special attention should be taken to assure that the heating and engine cooling systems are in good working order and that your battery is well within its warranty period and in good condition. The windshield washers and wipers should also be checked for proper operation.

In addition, if you are going to the snow, or will be taking a road trip that might require you to drive through snow country, be sure you have the following items in an accessible location in the vehicle for emergency situations:

  • Chains (put them on in the driveway once to be sure they fit and you know how to do it!)
  • Gloves and a tarp for installing the chains
  • Flashlight with fresh batteries
  • Road flares
  • Emergency food such as granola bars, hard candy, etc.
  • Spare drinking water
  • Portable radio with fresh batteries
  • Extra blankets
  • Aquapel on the windshield (as a suggestion)
